BOYO - Control

BIO:
BOYO is the psych-y fuzz-pop brainchild of 20 year-old Robert Tilden, former singer/songwriter in L.A. cult garage-band Bobby T. and the Slackers. BOYO was born out of the gradual dissolution of “Bobby T. and the Slackers,” a project that Tilden had started at age 16.
“Bobby T.” had seen local success after playing raucous sets throughout LA’s D.I.Y. and warehouse circuit with a live lineup featuring Sanam Tiffany (Danger Collective artist “Salmon”) and Cleo Tucker (of Girlpool). Tilden then released a homemade demo-tape in late 2012, getting the project opening slots for L.A. mainstays (Cherry Glazerr, Surf Curse, The Frights, Girlpool, to name a few) and touring alternative/indie acts (La Femme, the DMAs).
The last three songs released on Bandcamp under any variation of the moniker “Bobby T.” were the impetus for BOYO, inspiring a name-change, the start of a new record, and ultimately, a clean slate, with only those three songs (“Won’t Shake”, “Bones”, “TV Shows”) bleeding over into the new sets and the subsequent new record. “Bobby T.” drummer and frequent collaborator Ruben Radlauer returned to assist with co-production duties and sit behind the kit for the most of “control,” while a portion of the album was made just by Tilden in complete isolation during a turbulent time of uneasiness while recovering from substance issues, having recently dropped out of college due to anxiety and ending a tumultuous three-year relationship.
